Dr. (HC) Sonal Jhajj, a Mumbai-based Human Development Expert specialising in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), has spent more than two decades working at the intersection of education, leadership, life skills, teacher development and child-centred learning. With over 22 years of experience in preschool and primary education, she has built a professional journey centred on the belief that meaningful education must develop not only academic competence, but also confidence, resilience, empathy and essential life skills.

Currently serving as Vice Principal at a reputed school in Mumbai, Dr. Jhajj brings extensive experience in educational leadership, curriculum development and teacher mentoring. Her approach is distinguished by the integration of life skills with academics within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), creating learning environments in which children’s intellectual, emotional and social development are treated as equally important.

Strengthening Education Through Teacher Development

A significant part of Dr. Jhajj’s contribution to education has been her work with teachers and educational institutions. She has conducted training workshops at organisations including Arya Vidya Mandir, Aadi Academy and other educational institutions, helping educators explore contemporary approaches to early-years teaching, classroom engagement and holistic development.

She has also been invited as a speaker and panelist at forums dedicated to Early Childhood Care and Education. Her participation at platforms such as ECDF Assam, where she addressed subjects including grief management and leadership, reflects the breadth of her work beyond conventional classroom pedagogy.

In November 2024, she facilitated a Continuing Professional Development programme for Ram Ratna Vidya Mandir, further strengthening her commitment to professional learning among educators.

For Dr. Jhajj, teacher development carries a multiplier effect: when one educator grows in knowledge, confidence and sensitivity, hundreds of children can ultimately benefit. This philosophy has contributed to her role as a mentor to more than one lakh educators worldwide.

Bringing Innovation and Sustainability Into the Classroom

Dr. Jhajj’s educational philosophy also incorporates creativity, environmental responsibility and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Among her initiatives is the creation of approximately 300 teaching aids from waste materials, demonstrating how sustainability can be transformed into practical and engaging classroom learning.

Such work represents a larger educational principle: children learn values most effectively when they experience them in action. By connecting resourcefulness, creativity and environmental awareness with everyday teaching, educators can nurture responsible future citizens while making learning more meaningful.

Her work consistently advocates a model of education in which children are encouraged to question, explore, communicate and develop the skills necessary to navigate life not merely prepare for examinations.

Author, Researcher and Literary Contributor

Alongside her work in schools and teacher education, Dr. Jhajj has developed a substantial presence in research and literature. Her research has been published in ECA Manuals, and she has authored or co-authored five e-books while contributing to approximately 15 anthologies.

She has also worked as an editor on multiple literary compilations and Amazon-published titles, including The Third Eye, Hearteeculations and Whispering Miracles.

Her involvement in writing reflects the same human-development perspective that informs her educational practice. Through literary platforms, interviews and published works, she engages with themes connected to childhood, education, personal development, women empowerment and human experience.

She is also frequently invited for interviews and discussions on early childhood education, women empowerment and literary subjects, allowing her ideas to reach audiences beyond the formal education sector.

Leadership Beyond the Classroom

Dr. Jhajj has been invited as a Chief Guest and Guest of Honour at school functions, arts festivals and literary platforms. These engagements acknowledge her multifaceted contribution as an educator, mentor, speaker, author and advocate for personal development.

Her broader interest in human wellbeing has also extended into universal healing practices. She reports having supported more than 250 COVID-19 patients and over 400 other individuals through universal healing, an area of her work that reflects her personal commitment to service and holistic wellbeing alongside her professional educational career.

A Journey Marked by Recognition

Over the course of her career, Dr. Jhajj has received more than 100 awards and 500 certificates recognising contributions across education, leadership, literature and social development.

Her recognitions include honours such as the Nalanda Pride of Education Award, Nation Builder Changemaker Award, APJ Abdul Kalam Education Award and Swami Vivekananda Changemaker recognition, among others.

She is also a Lifetime Academic Member of the International Education Community associated with a university in the Philippines, reflecting the international reach of her engagement with the education community.

Yet the significance of such recognition lies not simply in the number of awards received, but in the body of work they represent decades devoted to children, educators, schools and lifelong learning.

Education as Human Development

At the heart of Dr. Sonal Jhajj’s professional philosophy is a simple but important idea: education must prepare children for life, not merely for the next academic milestone.

The earliest years of childhood form the foundation upon which confidence, curiosity, communication, emotional security and attitudes toward learning are built. For this reason, she advocates educational practices that respect each child’s individuality while intentionally nurturing life skills alongside academic development.

Her career demonstrates how the role of an educator can extend far beyond teaching lessons. An educator can become a mentor to teachers, a curriculum innovator, an advocate for children, a writer, a speaker and a catalyst for institutional change.

As education continues to evolve, voices that connect academic excellence with emotional intelligence, sustainability, creativity and human values remain increasingly important. Through more than two decades of educational leadership and advocacy, Dr. (HC) Sonal Jhajj continues to contribute to that wider vision one in which every child is given not only the opportunity to learn, but also the confidence and skills to grow into a capable, compassionate and empowered human being.
